Authorities Detained the Suspect, Donald Trump Unharmed
During a routine golf round at Trump International Golf Club, a Secret Service agent spotted a man with a rifle in the bushes near the perimeter. This occurred as Trump was moving between the fifth and sixth holes.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw explained that the Secret Service agent, part of a protective advance team, “immediately engaged with the suspect” upon noticing the rifle barrel.
Moreover, according to officials, the suspect was positioned 300 to 500 yards away from Trump at the time of the sighting. After the encounter, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. However, law enforcement quickly located him thanks to a critical tip from a witness.
“We are able to catch a witness that came to us and said, ‘Hey, I saw the guy running out of the bushes, he jumped into a black Nissan and I took a picture of the vehicle and the tag,' which was great,” Bradshaw stated.
After receiving alerts, authorities in Martin County, just north of Palm Beach, detained the suspect. Officers recovered an AK-47-style rifle with a scope, two backpacks filled with ceramic tiles, and a GoPro camera. These items suggest the act was premeditated.
